THE HEDGING CONUNDRUM – MANAGING CURRENCY RISK IN PORTFOLIOS
The US dollar has appreciated significantly against other global currencies in the last year, following a prolonged period of dollar weakness and expectations that the dollar would weaken against currencies of economies growing at considerably faster rates than the US economy. The turnaround in the dollar is based largely on improved prospects for the US economy and anticipation that the Federal Reserve will be raising interest rates while many central banks will be cutting rates to maintain or stimulate economic growth. As investors adjust to the idea of a strong dollar environment, the topic of currency hedging is being raised. This roundtable will review how family offices are approaching this issue and explore the pros and cons of currency hedging for investing globally.
